Timber marketing -

Bear Forestry specializes in timber sales to both improve the quality of the residual forest and provide revenue for the landowner. We have many clients who have sold timber several times over the years from the same property and still have a very well stocked forest. These clients have been able to pay for their property several times over thanks to our timber management.

While marking a timber sale, we select trees based on the management objectives of the landowner. Trees selected for harvest are clearly marked both at breast height and stump level.  Timber sale notices are then mailed to qualified licensed timber buyers who submit sealed bids on the set sale date ensuring a fair market price. Bear Forestry prepares a timber sale contract and oversees the harvest of the timber.

Timber appraisal -

Timber appraisals place a value on standing timber on your forestland. Inventory points are taken and the data collected at each point is extrapolated to estimate the total volume present. Value is assigned based on species composition and tree quality. Appraisals are useful in setting a tax basis or establishing a property value.

Timber stand improvement (TSI) -

TSI is the practice of improving growing conditions for valuable trees by deading low value trees, grapevines, and thinning dense young stands. TSI is always recommended after a timber harvest and can often be helpful in situations where there is not enough timber volume to warrant a harvest, but valuable trees are suffering from competition with non-crop trees or grapevines.

Invasive Species Control -

Invasive species are an increasing threat to forest ecosystems. Bear Forestry works with landowners to control most invasive species using tactics specific to the target pest. Common invasive species treated by Bear Forestry include: Bush Honeysuckle, Autumn Olive, Privet, Tree-of-Heaven, Multi-flora Rose, and Oriental Bittersweet.
